How to define your target audience
One of the most important things when creating your brand is to define who your target audience is.
It’s the foundation of all elements of your marketing strategy, from how you develop and name your products or services right through to the marketing channels you use to promote them.
You can’t market yourself without having a clear understanding of your perfect client.
Essential questions you need to answer:
What features offer your business, product or service
How those features are different from everyone else’s
What are the benefits of those features or what problem they are should solve
How those benefits matter or help solve a client’s problem
Who is likely to buy from you for the above benefits. Be sure to include their age, financial status, marital status, education level, employment status, and so on
Let’s talk now, WHY you need to identify your ideal client.
Many businesses think that market segmentation restricts them to a tiny market and that would limit their sales.
It is also possible to feel that segmenting excludes many potential customers.
These are legitimate concerns.
The truth is that defining your target audience is the best thing you could do for your business.
Here some benefits:
You’ll eliminate those people who will simply not value what you offer
You’ll have a more effective marketing strategy
You can better focus your messaging—tailored to focus on their needs, not the needs of the entire world
It’s a better use of your time—more spent serving your best customers and less time spent pursuing low-value prospects
You’ll build a stronger referral base— once you penetrate a target market and educate them on the value of working with you
Now, do you see why having an ideal client’s before starting your business is such a vital part of marketing?
When you know how to define your target audience, you create lasting brand recognition and loyalty, you identify opportunities to expand your offerings, and you simplify and improve your marketing efforts.
It takes some work to clearly define your target audience, but it’s work that is certainly worth it.
